INDIAN parents have been advised to take a greater interest in their children's education so that they can do well in their studies.
Deputy Chief Minister II Dr P. Ramasamy (pic) said education was important for one to improve livelihood and be free from poverty.
He said parents should set a good example to their children by not spending too much time watching television.
He also expressed disappointment that Indian parents gave a lukewarm response to the recent career and education expo held at Dewan Arumugam Pillai at Jalan Ooi Kar Seng in Nibong Tebal, Penang.
“I am sure they are at home watching Tamil dramas right now and I am very disappointed with the poor turnout.
“Keeping track of their children’s education should be every parent’s priority and nothing else should come in between.
“The organisers have sacrificed their time to hold such activities for the students’ benefit but, sad to say, these are not apprecia-ted,” said Dr Ramasamy, who is also Batu Kawan MP and Prai assemblyman.
The expo, which was jointly organised by e-Community Service, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), government and private colleges, attracted only about 100 students.
