Veteran state assemblyman Datuk Seri Dr Hilmi Yahaya failed to raise his right hand while taking the oath during the swearing-in ceremony today.
The Teluk Bahang assemblyman later told reporters that he did not realise his mistake and offered to repeat the oath-taking.
"This was pure oversight. I am prepared to do it again if instructed to by speaker Abdul Halim Hussain," Dr Hilmi said yesterday.
In an immediate resonse, chief minister Lim Guan Eng said he would leave the matter to Abdul Halim.
Abdul Halim urged elected representatives, especially first-timers, to adhere to state legislative assembly rules.
"I want to see all of you work hard to serve the people with renewed integrity and discipline without taking account into political affiliation," he said.
On another matter, Dr Hilmi urged the state administration to stop harping on alleged land scam cases which involved former deputy chief minister Datuk Seri Abdul Rashid Abdullah.
He said the Pakatan Rakyat should focus on how to address pressing issues such as retrenchment in factories.
"People are losing jobs on the back of the weakening economy and the state government must attend to this. We should not continue to harp on the land scam openly but discuss it in private," Dr Hilmi said.
