Don’t rely entirely on councils - The Star

May 3, 3008

RESIDENTS have been urged to participate in cleanliness campaigns and not to rely entirely on municipal councils to do the job for them.

Bagan Dalam assemblyman A. Tanasekharan said residents had a duty to maintain cleanliness and the best option was through gotong royong.

“Gotong royong will not only create public awareness on the importance of cleanliness but also promote unity among the people,” he said.

Tanasekharan said the cleanliness campaign would be carried out in the Bagan Dalam state constituency and Taman Bagan was the first to kick off the project.

The campaign will involve Seberang Prai Municipal Council workers, DAP members, Rukun Tetangga and Residents Associations.

During the gotong royong in Taman Bagan, the residents asked for adequate rubbish bins and Tanasekharan said he would forward the matter to the council.
