PENANG: April 22, 2008 by Nik Khusairi Ibrahim
The Penang Government has yet to offer PAS any key positions in government agencies or committees but the Islamist party has not given up hope.
State PAS commissioner Salleh Man said the party also had capable members who could sit on various state committees and was waiting for the state leadership to make the offers.
“We know the Chief Minister (Lim Guan Eng) is working on it. We will just wait until the decision is finalised,” he added.
Salleh was commenting on press reports that three Umno assemblymen – Sungai Acheh’s Datuk Mahmud Zakaria, Seberang Jaya’s Datuk Arif Shah Omar Shah and Pulau Betong’s Muhamad Farid Saad – had declined offers to sit in various state administrative committees.
The three claimed they rejected the offers because it could be a political trap.
Salleh said PAS members should be given positions in the government as they were also part of the Pakatan Rakyat coalition.
