April 22, 2008

SRJK (C) Chong Teik in Balik Pulau, Penang, got a boost of almost RM1.6mil to its building fund from the Penang Teong Guan Association.

The school, which is building a new three-storey building and hall, received RM1,597,356.36 from the association which raised the money during last year’s Hungry Ghosts Festival.

Its board chairman Choo Shi Nyen received a mock cheque for the amount from association chairman Lim Yam Koi during the association dinner at the Han Chiang school hall on Saturday.

Association secretary Ng Kwan Fook said the association raised money yearly to help schools that needed funding.

Choo thanked the association for its generosity, adding that the school needed RM3mil for the new building and hall.

“Initially, we needed only RM2.5mil but due to the rising prices of building materials, the cost of the new building increased,” he said.

Also present at the dinner were Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, Tanjung MP Chow Kon Yeow, Jelutong MP Jeff Ooi, Komtar assemblyman Ng Wei Aik, Kebun Bunga assemblyman Jason Ong and Pengkalan Kota assemblyman Lau Keng Ee.
